Most people starting as a new vaper go for mouth-to-lung kits because it replicates the feeling of smoking a cigarette. Newbies also tend to prefer the simplicity of pen-style vape kits or pod-style kits.

What are the main types of vape kits?
The main types of vape kits are pens, disposable vape kits, box mod vape kits and sub-ohm vape kits. With so many, it’s easy to get confused! Here’s a short guide to the different vape kits you can buy.
When electronic cigarettes first came to the market, they had a very low-power battery and a basic (often disposable) tank. You will be pleased to know that the technology has come a long way since then, and there are many sleek digital vape kits available.
The draw is the main thing you need to decide on before choosing your vape kit. This is decided by the amount of air that passes through the Tank and the Coil. A mouth-to-lung draw lets less air through and replicates the feeling of smoking a cigarette. For this reason, most starter kits are mouth-to-lung such as pens. The second type of Draw is called direct to lung, which means that a large amount of air is let through the tank producing more ‘cloud’.
Vape pens are commonly known as e-cigarettes. Users of vape pen style kits like them because they are so simple and easy to use. The starter kits are made up of a rechargeable battery that you charge through a simple USB wire and a Vape Tank. Maintenance is straightforward. Here are four top tips for keeping your vape pen working smoothly…
Keep your vape device charged.
Keep your Tank filled with your favourite E-liquid
Change your Vape coil when needed.
You can learn more about coils in our beginner's guide to vape kits.
One of our best-selling vape pen kits is the Innokin T20-S Pen vaping starter kit. At just £23.99, it’s ideal for vapers looking for a bit more power from their e-cigarette. It delivers smooth vapour and will last a whole day on one single charge.
Pod Vape Kits
Vape Pod kits are so-called because of the plastic pod you insert into them. When pod-style kits were first introduced, the pods were pre-filled with e-liquid and usually disposable. However, pre-filled disposable pods work out more expensive. It’s cheaper and simpler to use a pod kit that you can refill with e-liquid yourself.
Pod Kitshave advanced since they were first released, and now you can even get a sub-ohm pod kit (more about sub-ohm later!) with larger batteries, digital screens and control through adjustable power. People like pod kits because they are easy to use and conveniently portable.
A popular option if you are looking for a Vape Pod kit is the SMOK IPX80 Pod kit. It is a hard-wearing and robust device that is designed to last as long as possible. Waterproof, rustproof and shockproof, this pod kit is as durable as they come! It is a popular option because it is so easy to use, and the adjustable settings make it suitable for both mouth-to-lung and direct-to-lung vaping. The kit comes with the mod, a pod atomizer, two RPM coils and a USB cable.
Box Mod Vape Kits
The box mod vape kit is so-called because it usually has a battery that resembles a box. These kits are popular with people who have been vaping for some time. They prefer this type of kit because it often gives you more control. Box mod kits are comfortable to hold and usually come with a vape tank that matches the kit perfectly.
A Box Mod Vape Kit has a built-in battery that would have a larger capacity than most vape pens, or they can be compatible with removable rechargeable batteries.
There are several advantages of using a box mod kit:
Larger capacity batteries, meaning more time between charges
Digital screens to see your settings and usage
Adjustable power, meaning you can dial in the vape experience to your personal preference.
A popular choice for box mod kit users is the Innokin Coolfire Z50 Zlide kit. It is a compact and stylish box mod vape kit with a simple setup that makes it great for newbies. The slide tank is easy to top up and mess-free.
Disposable vapes are pre-filled with e-liquid, and the battery is pre-charged and ready for use. Disposable vapes can be handy for a night out or for those who want to try vaping without buying a complete kit. However, it can be an expensive way to vape compared to using e-cigarettes or a box mod-style kit.
We highly recommend the QIS Disposable vapes. They are compact and simple-to-use draw-activated pod-style vaping devices. Each bar will provide enough e-liquid and battery life for 20 e-cigarettes. Some of the popular flavours are pink lemonade, mango ice and spearmint.
Sub Ohm Vape Kits
Sub Ohm Vaping is all about high power. We sometimes refer to sub-ohm vape kits as sub-tanks. They are preferred by long-term vapers rather than newbies because sub-ohm vape kits offer a direct-to-lung vaping experience. This means they let more air through the coil and produce a bigger cloud. If you’ve ever walked past someone who is vaping and surrounded by a massive cloud, then they are probably using a sub-ohm kit!
If you are going for a sub-ohm vape kit, you should probably get a high-VG liquid. This means that rather than choosing a 50/50 PG/VG ratio, you might choose a 30/70. These thicker High VG Shortfill E-liquids are the perfect consistency for your Sub Ohm Kit, and the extra thickness of the liquid helps create more vapour.
Looking for an excellent sub-ohm kit recommendation? Why not go for the Vaporesso Gen Nano Sub Ohm kit for £47.99? It is a popular choice because it allows vapers to get a degree of control that you just don’t get with other kits. It comes with a Vaporesso Gen Nano 80W vape device, 2ml GTX 22 tank, two GTX Mesh Coils and a USB charging cable.
What is included in a vape kit?
If you have chosen to buy a Vape Starter Kit from our online store, your kit will include your Vape tank or Vape pod, a replacement vape coil or pod, the vape battery or vape box mod, and a USB charging wire. The only thing you will then need is your E-liquid.
Which e-liquid should I choose?
E-liquids come in many different flavours, and it’s fun trying them out to see what you prefer - whether it’s tooty fruity or menthol fresh. However, we do need to make sure that we choose the correct E-liquid for the Vape Kit we are using. Generally, those starting with a starter vape kit will go for a 50/50 e-liquid.
We recommend 10ml E-liquid for Vape starter Kits or Nicotine Salts for Pod vape kits. They are the perfect consistency for the coil in your vape tank, and your kit will run more efficiently. If you would like to know more about choosing the correct e-liquid for you, then hop over to our recent article - ‘What is an e-liquid? The complete guide'.
Some popular e-liquid brands include Zeus Juice, Dinner Lady and Decadent vapours. We stock all of these and more. If you want to read more about the best brands of e-liquids, check out our blog.
Setting up your Vape Kit
We recommend that when you receive your new kit and fill it with E-liquid, Leave it to rest without vaping it for 10-15 minutes. And then, before you turn the device on give it 4 or 5 puffs without pressing the fire button; this will ensure that the vape coil in your new device is fully saturated with e-liquid and primed, ready for you to use.
Hopefully, you will now feel more educated on the different types of vape kits and vape starter kits that are on offer, and you will now find it easier to make your choice.
